Thanksgiving Wine
There are two reasons that I am in charge of providing wine for Thanksgiving. The first, and most obvious, I work at a wine shop. If I don't show up with something fabulous to drink then what good am I? Second, I am an absolute control freak, and this way I am guaranteed to be drinking just as well as I am eating. So what am I providing for my Turkey Day guests this year? I like to have a nice selection of things but one item I knew I was having for sure....rosé. And which rosé made the cut? Domaine Fontsainte Gris de Gris from Corbieres in the Languedoc.
This lovely little rosy beauty is a Kermit Lynch import. It has a delicate floral nose and plenty of richness for a rosé, but still quaffable and thirst-quenching. The flavors of red fruit and flowers linger on and on and you wonder how a rosé can be so delicious and how cheap wine can be so good.
It makes my number one spot for Thanksgiving wine because it has so much to offer for so little. It's rich enough to stand with it's head held high next to a roasted bird, but delicate enough to let said bird shine in it's own right. It's served nice and chilly and keeps your palate refreshed, especially important if you have a heafty plateful of side dishes and you know you can't say no to seconds! It can be popped open with hors d'oeuvres and ease right into dinner. And you can afford to serve a crowd with it as it's a mere $11.75 a bottle! Really, you just can't go wrong here!
