Soft Shell Crabs...yum...
It's been a pretty food packed week for me. After receiving my June issue of Food & Wine magazine in the mail, I was inspired to make my own beef jerky. As the magazine showed it being super simple (no dehydrater needed, just a low slow oven and time to kill) Six hours of marinating plus 3 1/2 hours in a 200 degree oven equals jerky goodness. It was the perfect flavorful snack to eat while watching Crazy Heart, which I LOVED. Dear Jeff Bridges, I have a total crush on you.
My next extravaganza of foodieness was my purchase of an entire case of soft shell crabs(24 little guys). I received a "colorful" message from my friend Jay telling me that I "had crabs". I promptly ate two for breakfast with a simple squirt of lime and drizzle of olive oil and a sprinkling of salt and pepper. They were perfect. Equally good for dinner as sandwiches with a spicy mayo and garlic baked fries! They are one of my very favorite treats during their very short season. They tasted very nice paired with Kung Fu Girl Riesling from Washington.
I currently have some beef short ribs in the slow cooker at home awaiting my arrival from work and I plan to serve them over mashed potatoes spiked with blue cheese and a bottle of Francis Ford Coppola's Director's Cabernet. Oh yeah, it's Spring but the weather is cool and short ribs will hit the spot.
